Thanks on the comments, when you are ready for the glass redo, contact me either here or via email (daverb46@yahoo.com) its not as hard as it seems, but found most glass shops, unless they do resto work, do not know how to do it.

None of the glass shops around here will touch it. Both my XJSes need the windshield replaced, so, I figure that I better add this to my bag of tricks too.
How is the windshield mounted in the XJS? Is it radically different than other cars? Are the shops afraid to do the work because the mounting method is unusual or are they just afraid because its a Jaguar?

They are afraid of breaking the glass. New car windshields mount differently than they did in the day of the XJS, and most glass technicians don't know how to mount old school glass. I've heard that the XJS glass mounts just like VW Beetle glass, but, never having installed glass on an old VW bug, I can't say exactly how to do it.
i put a new windshield in my XJS about 20yrs ago, but honestly cant remember details, but went in no problem, used a winshield black lube of some type for sealing properties.
do remember some plastic things like bondo tools and slide them along edges.

I put a new windscreen in mine last year. Got a nice tint/top screen from rock auto for $150. None of the glass shops would touch it.....it was actually a piece of cake. Hardest part was putting back on the stainless trim.
that is how it was for me, no shop knowing how to do one, IMO that is dumb they should learn. Anyhow, I found some information on UTube, and a section in the XJS book, but some things I found done a bit different worked out better for me.
