Default My first XJS.

I just recently purchased my first XJS.(My first car as a matter of fact.) The car is in great shape. It runs smooth, new tires, new windshield, and under the car is spotless. I'm really happy with it.

School vacation is right around the corner so I'm beginning a list of things I'd like to upgrade/maintain. The basics of course being the brakes, spark plugs, oil. Could you please give me any tips as to other things I should do to keep it going strong? My budget isn't huge so small, yet helpful enhancements will be the name of the game.

Thanks,

Jake

If it's a V-12 replace ALL of the short fuel injector hoses. They are old and will split and when they split fuel sprays down onto the hot exhaust and your XJS will burn up. This is as certain as the sun rising in the east.

It is a V12. Thanks, I'll add it to the list. It's an '89 so those hoses are well worn.

Would this do the job? V12 Performance: Fuel Injector Hose Only Set Jaguar XJS V12

Jake, lees expensive path is buy efi hose and cut it yourself, it is not that difficult and you save a ton of money.

Congrats Jake Welcome to the fold. The XJS V12 is one of the best touring coupes ever built, IMHO.

A couple of other things to check.
- Throttle body bushes, the ones in the plates on the end of the plenum, these are most likely missing.
- Cooling system, drain and replace the coolant, if it looks like it has not been changed in some time I would pull the radiator and have it cleaned.
- If pre-Marelli make sure the advance mechanism is cleaned and lubed.

Thanks.

You lost me there, I'm still learning the in's and out's of an engine. You'll have to bear with me and my lack of knowledge.

I'm in Gardner. Have you ever attended the cruise nights at any Kimball's Barn in MA?

no I haven't, I'm afraid I have a severe affliction called night shift work. Gardner isn't far for me, in fact my brother lives down there. I have Tuesdays off usually so maybe we can get together and I can help you iron out some of your problems. I'm picking up a whole parts car in a couple weeks in case you need anything.

I have circled where the bushes are - this is the LH TB. These almost invariably fall apart so will most likely be missing.

Well now all of you fellows from Mass and NH...I was born and brought up in Worcester, had a house in Sutton for twenty five years and moved to Tampa Bay in '05. Gardner's a nice town - attended classes at MWCC.

Welcome to the elite! If you have not done so yet, well worth downloading Kirbert Palm's book on the XJS. His opinions are not perfect; but his book is a great way to get started on understanding the XJS.

My dad owned a jag with rusted out floors. The carpets were the only thing between you and any puddles you drove over. That aside the car looked and drove like a million dollars, everything had been redone, engine, leather, paint. I miss that car...

Thanks, just downloaded the pdf. Between that and this forum, I'll understand the xjs soon enough.
