Wait for more opinions but most often when the fan or fans stay running it's due to a failure of the circuit board....which means the unpleasant task of removing the blower motor

This pertains to an earlier model but the fundamentals of the Mk III system remained the same on later cars as far as I know

Air conditioning blower control

I had the same problem in my '96 although it was the driver's side unit that failed. The problem was a bad power transistor which shorted out the circuit and kept the fan powered all of the time. It was a fairly easy fix once I got the unit out. Email me at Brownfam53@yahoo.com and I'll send you the '95 electrical diagram which shows the circuitry and what happens when the transistor fails. Also, I have directions for replacing the drivers side unit which might be of some use; they also include what I did to fix the circuit board which I think is directly applicable to the right side unit.

Good luck, Mitch

Sylvain,

As mentioned, the Darlington transistor is the common cause of this problem. And it's quite realistic to replace it with a cheap unit from your local electrical store. Google "Darlington transistor XJS" for lots of forum threads from various sites as to this problem.

Good luck

Paul

Hi,

What will happened if I don't have the blower fixed except that the right ac blower won't work

I noticed that everything else with the climate control works properly

Thx

You will not get the vents delivering air as evenly and uniformly as the system was designed to deliver. There will be one side of the car and the centre vents not blowing air as strongly and evenly as they should. You might even have heated or air conditioned air blowing out of the non-working side into the non-working fan's fresh air inlet, depending upon the inlet flap position of the non-working fan!

I removed each fan and replaced the transistors and the other 4 or 5 components in the fan circuit. Very easy and precludes further fan removal. As far as removing the fans it has been overrated as a difficult job. There is a web site or posting that has about 15/20 pictures on the removal and reinstallation. Need to Google. I agree with Greg's remarks
