No central locking, No cranking, No start. Security Moduale,
Greetings.
1996 XJS Celebration coupe, 4.0L, Auto, UK spec.
I managed to flatten the battery, put on charge but now it won't start. All the dash lights come on but it will not crank over. I have changed the battery in the remote. Car battery is less than 12 months old. Prior to this the central locking was behaving erratically. I suspect the Security module is the issue. for my car it has the part number DPP 1051/01 and Body number 7K006694. I am struggling to find a replacement unit. What are my options ? Alternatives ? I notice that one of the connectors in the loom has a wire bridging two contacts. And another contact has been taped up. Looks like someone has been here before. An help gratefully received.
I am in Blackpool UK. Looks like someone has been here before ! Red insulating tape Grn/Yel Blo/Gry This is the connector with the red wire bridging two terminals. Opposite side of bridged connector.
Before you think about changing items, maybe start with the basics:
- What is the battery voltage (measure it at both the battery terminals AND ALSO at the bulkhead terminals. Is it above 12.4v and within 0.1v at the bulkhead?
- Is there any noise eg a click, when you try and turn it over or no change at all from being in ign Pos II?
- Does the car lock and unlock with the remote now that the battery is charged?
- Do you have the additional fob-key operated immboliser fitted to the car at the ignition switch?
Thanks PJs1sound advice. Don't panic check the basics !
I had the car on trickle charge whilst on holiday. Came back and checked all the basics. Turned out that one remote was dead. The spare did not work even with a new battery, until I cleaned the coroded battery contacts ! all good now huge sigh of relief. Thanks for your input.
