Odometer on XJS not working, speedo kind of works...
Hey guys,
The odometer on my 1991 jag XJS v12 does not work, neither does the trip odo. And the speedometer works but is 15-20mph behind the speed I am actually going when driving. Very odd. Is this an easy fix? How expensive could this repair be? Any suggestions or comments at all? Anything is helpful
Thanks!, Scott

Scott,
I just replaced the speed transducer in my 87. The part cost around $100, and it's a pretty easy fix...unscrew the old one and screw in the new one and reattach the wiring connector.
If that is your problem I don't know. My speedo got slowly more erratic, showing correct speed...dropping to zero...showing correct speed, and slowing getting worse until it quit all together. Replacing the transducer fixed it.
My trip odo doesn't work correctly either. It "works" in the sense that it records the miles, but I can't reset it. I've not really put a great deal of effort into trying to figure it out as I have bigger fish to fry with the car.
I only posted because you said "anything" would be helpful :-). I would guess that maybe you have a "zeroing" problem with your speedo, but not sure how to fix that. Others will chime in.
Good luck!

Scott...sorry...should have mentioned. Transducer on my '87 (your car may be different) screws into the side of the tranny from underneath. Not hard to get to if you've got a way to elevate the car a bit.

Thanks John, I appreciate that. I read somewhere else that the problem can often be the transducer. The real issue is the odometer though because I may be selling this car soon, and the odometer has to be working for that purpose
