Default ABS module replaced

I had the intermittent abs/stab control light issue so I sent my module to repair pro in CA. Now that it is back in, my speedo does not work and the lights are still on. Does anyone have any ideas? Do I need to drive it for a while to reset?

Yes, you need to drive it, but not more than a few miles. I hope you disconnected the battery before you removed the module.

I drove it a couple of miles, ABS and stab control warnings went off, check engine light, abs light and brake lights still on, also speedo and cruise don't work. The mechanic that did the replacement says that he'd disconnected the battery in an effort to reset the lights. Could this be the low battery gremlins I'd read about? I don't know if he disconnected the battery before module removal, it was shipped out and repaired in any manner though.

It could be low batt. But disconnecting a module incorrectly can result in damage due to voltage spikes. It's also possible the shop soldered the abs pump pins but didn't test the other circuits.

Did the speedometer work before the service. It uses the left rear wheel sensor for input, possible bent pin?

Yes, the speedo worked before the module was repaired. I also noticed that the trip data, such as avg fuel economy no longer works as well. Are you referring to a bent pin on the module?

MIL won't go off for 3 trips so clear it via OBD.

Here's an update, 8 weeks and 4 garages, the last being the Jag dealer, nobody can communicate with the car. Jag dealer wanted 8700 USD to replace the module. They feel that it is a bad module, but Module Repair Pro out of CA so far refuses to take credit for a botched repair. Because it came back without the part # label, I'm kind of stuck with finding an exact replacement. From my research it looks like part #s LNC2210BD, BH, AD, and AH are compatible? I'm thinking that if I put a used known working module in and it clears the lights, speedo issues etc., I'll know it was a badly repaired module.

Can any one confirm those part #s and their compatibility with a 98 XK8 coupe w traction control?

It's stopping the car from passing state inspection because the check engine light is on.

I'm getting very frustrated and am about ready to throw the towel in.

There should be a white label in the trunk, at the edge of the spare tire well with the part number and VCATs code (the software version) for every module in the vehicle.

I don't see an ABS code listed, could it have worn off at the bottom of the tag?

I had the same guy in CA do my ABS. I think he charged $100 shipping, which was actually the core charge. My old module only gave me an intermittent abs light. After 2 of his modules, that made my instrument cluster light up, with things i have never seen before, he wanted me to send in my module to him. I wasn't going to take a chance on him screwing up my module, so I demanded my money back. I think it was around $399, including shipping, and told him I would put nothing up on ebay, about my experience with his business.....be cool.....Mike

My bad, I guess the ABS module is not listed. It seems absurd that it is not on the label:

.

Member Motorcarman is quite knowledgeable on the ABS versions, you might check to see if he can help.

Don't give up just yet Jims - you're not too deep in there

As you've now got a rash of new errors displaying since the ABS module came back from repair, I'm with the dealer here that the module is suspect.

I too have 98 '8 coupe and there's no mention of ABS on the VCATS; my understanding is that only the programmable modules are listed, which the ABS isn't, apparently. Some experience an 'incorrect part fitted' message after replacement, which is cured by having the car 'introduced' ((hope it's not like the fabled two Englishmen) to the new module via WDS or similar.

For '98 both JEPC and Alldata show the part # as JLM20130 if you have traction control and JLM20129 if you don't. BUT, motorcarman is the oracle on these - see this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...10/#post383314

If it's any consolation I'll be following in your footsteps as the old girl has started with the same complaint. Just need to check the abs sensors, wiring and reluctor rings before I get into the module possibility as I've no codes thrown.

HTH,
Mike

P.S. Thanks WhiteXKR for the module crib sheet.
