Default Oil Leak - nice puddle under sump plug.

Oil Leak - nice puddle under sump plug.

I have just returned from a 800km drive over two days.
On arriving on day one, the oil level looked Ok - I did notice the little puddle under the car.
Arriving home that puddle is larger - like 6inch stain on concrete, oil looks fresh not dirty.

OIL Level has dropped significantly. I have not added oil yet to see how much will be needed to top up.
But level is low.

It looks to be dripping down around the sump plug.

My first thought was rear main oil seal - but reading Grants notes on oil leaks I am hoping it will not be this.
I have JUST replaced oil pressure sender and oil temp - they were leaking. Nothing like this leak.

Crank case breather, i will check this weekend, I did check it a few years ago...
Any thoughts?

Since I am in the mood?????

Some oil leakage is acceptable as part of the "Jaguar Underbody Rust Protection Sydtrm"

BUT

That was BEFORE the Marelli fiasco and the full circle Raer Main Flaseal that replace the Rope Style..

Some report that seal "popping out", mmmm, maybe.

A Bank D Seal is @1 on my list, followed by the camvover gasket.
The oil feed Banjo, NOPE, coz if that sucker is leaking, at 100psi, you would be out of oil within the hour.

Oil switch, the Idiot light one on the RH side of that pedestal would be #3. NOTHING special there at all, 1.8"bsp with a spade terminal. Mine run a Toyota Corolla unit,, coz we had them at work and cheap as.

Sump plug, yeh-nah, doubtful.

The rest is in that stickie.

You just replaced pressure sender and switch. Did they seal well? Do they look nice and dry?

Excellent point. My car threw out 10 pints of oil in about 100 miles once. I just could not find the source, until Grant Francis (turn and bow to the Southern Cross at the mention of the Great XJS Prophet's name) told me to look at the senders on the oil feed casting. Even then it was not until I revved up the engine with a VERY bright light that I saw the tiniest bead of clean oil just seeping out. I could not believe that was the source, but it was!

Thanks guys... I will be having a good look this weekend.
The sender and switch looked nice and dry after a couple of smaller drives before the big drive.
There does look to be fresh WET oil around that area.

I had noticed that this area was dryer once the leak was fixed, I was working out in my mind how to clean this area.... now its all wet so I am suspicious.
I don't expect this to be the problem, as I think I did a better job than that when I fixed this leak. But it will be a huge relieve if it is the problem.

On a side note I let my 21yr old son take the car for a drive, people at the shop commented young fella in a cool car..., he came back grinning from ear to ear.
Says its the coolest car he has ever driven.

Accross the dotch suggestion.

Clean ot off, Carby Cleaner would be my choice.

Run it while yo sit and contimplate the world.

Feel around the switches, threads, end caps etc.

My bet is the idiot light switch is weeping, and at 90-100psi, it happens.

Sadly, nothing is made as it was, near enough suffices, not in a V112.
1/8BSP, spade terminal, jobs done. I got a Toyota brand unit waaaay back, and its still there.

Maaaaate, ya just lost your Jag, he will hound you forever. Well done Jnr.
