Default One thing after another

Every time I fix one thing then another screws up.
Had AC freon put in today, working on automatic at 65* but when I pull out on knob for manual then heat comes out and stops blowing out the center vents and only comes out side vents and it is hot air. I also have the big wheel under stereo set to the blue left position. Do I now need a new thermostat?
Thank you for any help.

To clarify, the output changed from cold to heat by simply pulling the knob out? You didn't alter the temp setting?

If so, that's clearly a fault.

and stops blowing out the center vents and only comes out side vents and it is hot air.

If the system sees the need for max cooling, or the temp knob (in or out) was set to call up max cooling, then it should blow thru the center vent. At anything less than max cooling the system will blend hot and cold air and send it to the side vents (mostly) and floor vents (a little).

(If heating is called for, the majority of the flow goes to the footwell vents)

I also have the big wheel under stereo set to the blue left position.

Which is effective only as a trim adjustment to slightly alter the temp of the side vent output versus footwell output. It's a very subtle thing. You won't even feel it unless the cabin temp and climate control have stabilized.

Anyhow.....

Sorry for the blathering......

In your case it sounds like simply pulling the temp knob out changes the system from cooling to heating....and that isn't right.

I'm not sure how to fix it, though. I'll do some mulling. Hopefully others will chime in.

Cheers
DD

Ambient temp 85*, I have AC temp set at 65* after driving 20 minutes it is not cool enough so with temp still on the 65* mark I pull out on the knob and Hot air comes out not a mixture it comes out Hot and it switches to side vents only. Thank you.
