Default Wiring nightmare

Hello everyone,
So i'm currently in the middle of a much needed touch up on my 1989 Jaguar XJS. While the engine is away being rebuilt I am tackling the wiring, many of the wires have become so brittle that even a slight bend will crack the insulation and thus exposing the copper wire underneath. I have been replacing the wires one at a time in an attempt to keep everything in order. Does anyone know were I might find easy to follow wire diagrams? Also, to prevent the same problems from reoccurring, does anyone have any advice on how to insulate the new wires so that they may last me many years? I taking every possible avenue to restore this car to its former glory, any tips or pointers would be deeply appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Cheers!

I presume you're talking about the engine wiring. Re-routing it so it doesn't lay in right down the "vee" will work wonders to help ensure long life.

You can also buy high temp wiring and sheathing from various online vendors

Here are some good diagrams:

If you do a google search there is a high temp replacement for that harness. Myself I use high temp silicon sheathing on them. It's pricey but worth it. There is also glass sheathing that works well and comes in various sizes. I buy it through PPI a supplier to the plastic industry for extruder parts. The silicon is guarenteed to 1100 degrees the glass to 700. Both of which slightly surpass the the temperature under the bonnet of an XJS. lol

Years ago I got some hi temp wire from Painless Wiring. Many online choices.

IMHO you don't have to go hog wild with some sort of exotic specification stuff. I think getting the wires up outta the Vee is the most important thing.

Del City was the most inexpensive supplier with the high quality, high temp wire when I rewired mine. They delivered fast and had a good selection of connectors and heat-shrink tape as well as looms.

I completely rewired almost everything under the hood because I didn't want to ever mess with it again!
