The mixture of metric and SAE does complicate things a bit (not to mention whatever arcane thing the radiator bleed screw is supposed to be).

Nope.

A philosophic attitude is everything when working on an old Jag. There are no design flaws on an XJS. Anything that looks like a design flaw is, in actuality, "an interesting design feature".

You just have to resign yourself to working slowly and meditatively ....and removing lot's of 'stuff' to eventually reach what you need to reach. Don't fight it; don't rush. It'll only get worse if you do. The car will fight you every inch of the way.

Soon enough you'll learn to savor every turn of the wrench. The car will be putty in your hands and you'll be whistling while you work.

Cheers

Or, as a guy that is a tool junkie, a great opportunity to use them. At times as intended, and others, not so much.

I have learned to wait til the task is done before imbibing in an adult beverage.

At the moment, my Jaguar is behaving rather nicely. I think???

SMOG inspection today. Mebbe, been procrastinating. hate 'em...

I have not been an xjs owner for very long. However, with my limited experience with my "low" mileage xjs I have begun to think some are low mileage because their owners had a hard time keeping them on the street in good working order.

Heh heh

Yeah, but we know much more about keeping them in good order than we did 20 years ago. Just about any problem you come across will have a known cause and cure.

When I bought my '88 it took me a few months of weekend tinkering to address all the "usual XJS problems" left untouched by the PO. After that it was a great ownership experience.

Cheers

Patience is the key stop when you are getting low. Yes a drink after will help a lot of them may help more. There is always another day and a fresh perspective.

Well, I must chime in that on occasion, I've had to have a "little" toddy while thinking about the situation that my cat has me thinking about. It does not clear my head, but on the other hand, it has allowed me to think "bass ackwards" and the solution is found.... I do not think any "normal" person should "own" one of these creatures. We are forced to understand that they own US !!! We are only the slaves, they only exist to force us into submission. When you finally come to terms with this, you will experience that wonderful experiential feeling when you turn the key !!!
