Default Painting The Fan Shroud What Paint Should I Use? XJS V12

Having just found out the horrendous price of a 'New Fan Shroud' for my XJS V12.

I am thinking of re-painting the one I took out of the Car, which is very solid all round and not falling to pieces.

To-day, I stripped it right back to bare metal and was going to give it a coat of Black Gloss Paint (which thins with White Spirit)

Up until I reminded myself of the very High Temperatures under the Bonnet/Hood.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to paint it with?

Tremclad, satin black night Temp pain in a spray can. Use a self etching or good metal spray primer first.
One light coat of primer wait 10 min. Follow up with 2 heavy coats primer 10 min in between.
Wait an hour and start same process with the satin high heat.
Let cure 48 hours before installing.

Halfords (most part stores) do a high temp black paint.

What about something a bit 'plastified'? POR 15 -type stuff would be good in that location. Never used it, but it comes in gloss black, or can be topcoated with their gloss black stuff. The shroud goes rusty in no time, so something of this type will wear better than just paint, i think.

You can get various colours of exhaust paint for motorcycles too.

You can try a hardware store for BBQ grille paint as well.

That sounds a good idea Malc, I'll look into that.

Hi Greg

I'm thinking about having it Galvanized, providing they can do it while I wait.

I've got some Engine Paint in the Shed that I used on my MGB, I might try that.
