Default by pass hose blows out of the thermstat housing

I recently had my temp gauge reading hi and steam coming out from under the car, being on the m27 I pulled off at the next junction, parked where I was convenient, lifted the bonnet and it was well soaked, turned out that the
by pass hose steel insert complete with hose, behind the l.h. thermostat had completely blown out of the casting, I pushed it back in drove to the nearest garage and filled it with water and had no problem for the remainder of the journey, 120 miles or so including 1/2hr slow moving jam, anyone else had this happen and found a permanent fix like threading the hole to take a screw in pipe

Been there.

Made a real mess out of my reasonably sanitary engine bay.

I turned to the "Mechanic's Best Friend", JB Weld, to glue the nipple back in place.

I had this happen on my XJ6 as well and the JB Weld held for as long as owned the car....many, many years. Predicting the same on my V12.

Cheers
DD
