Default POR-15 To Repair Metal Expansion Tank?

Hello

Just an enquiry to see if anyone has successfully used POR-15 to refurbish a metal expansion tank on the cooling system of an XJS. I and many others have previously used this product successfully on a rusty Mercedes fuel tank. Any thoughts on why this would not be successful for the XJS expansion tank?

Best wishes

Pierre

I doubt it would hold as the temperature changes and pressure changes would inevitably mean the bond between the stuff and the metal leaked enough to depressurise the system. Welding one up would be wiser and buying a new one wiser still! You do not want a hot V12 blowing its water away as the engine would be very unlikely to survive the episode.

ok thanks. Just considering options as a couple of the main suppliers don’t have them available currently.

You could use some of the specific radiator repair putties. I have had good luck making repairs with POR paint and putty.but haven't tried on any cooling system parts. A radiator shop might be able to repair it with solder.

UK ebay usually has everything you need from breakers. Just try Jaguar XJS expansion tank.
