Default pre face lift projection headlights? 1988

I just did a beautiful conversion on a 69 firebird with hid projection headlights has anyone done this too their xjs?!? I can picture how amazing it would look properly done and the dream has me drooling at night. Any idea what size the housing is? Or do I have too pull it out of storage and make my own measurements

If you have the double headlight set up, (or quad) then the headlights are 5 3/4" size. If that helps......

I have always thought (wished for) a projector headlight application for the later XJS. Two issues: First, it'd allow for a decent illumination that the car otherwise lacks by including a projection HID system. The second issue is not really needed, but a matter of personal choice/taste. I'd seriously consider a light body alteration where sheet metal meets lens at a rather dated sharp angle. This is mostly around the top half of the headlight, like from 9:00am to 3:00pm by smoothing out the angle that these surfaces form, thus better blending in the rounded shape that most of these newer projection light assemblies will feature. Of course, restrain is the rule here because we wouldn't want wild wrap-around lights out front that would look poor taste and just plain ol' silly on the XJS. But if designed in good taste, just to achieve the perfect compromise without exaggerations, and well executed, this could make the XJS pretty spectacular without altering its beautiful original stance.

It'd be nice to be able to work with somebody at the drafting board to try and see what can be done and how it would look. I do know that it'll look smarter, if not more modern in a similar fashion as when comparing some facelift lines to pre facelift cars (please, no offense; the facelift had a purpose that was greatly achieved).

88-xjsv12, is that sets of lights you're looking at accessible in the Internet? Determining which exact light assembly will be used is paramount before even thinking of any body changes. Well, actually the whole conception must be "approved" for use and finalized before touching anything. Hey...I'm drooling, myself, with just the thought...

I've been looking at several online going too select which style I like then I'll dig into what power levels (volts/amps/watts etc) once that's done I'll pick up a set and get too installing them but this won't be till September . I will update everyone one which lights should be compatible but may need modification too fit and function properly can't just throw them in aiming them is the key too this or it was a waste of time.

This is on my to-do list as well. The stock lights are so-so at best and will need some rewiring (good sized wire for power hooked up to relays) and probably a swap to different units anyway so if I'm going to spend the time and trouble...

Please do keep us posted on what you wind up doing!

update on the headlights Im going too retro fit the headlights with f-xr projectors . The other options are very open need too check the back of the headlight if its glass or plastic. I am replacing the ones in my Jeep grand cherokee so the jaguar will follow. Plastic obivously can be drilled not glass so we might have too buy 5 inch housings that fit and modify from there . Ill keep this thread updated and post pictures when complet of the whole process
