Default XJS top pump is breaking me!!!

Rebuilt twice...still leaks. Now I found that shaft is burred, and keeps chewing up seals! Before I take my own life in frustration, can anyone say whether or not I can substitute a newer pump from an XK8 (for example) for my 1996 XJS pump? Can I even substitute a pump from an old Camaro, or other brand? Seems to me that a reversible pump within the same dimensions should work! I don't feel like spending hundreds on a used pump again!
Appreciate some comments!
Scott!

Scott, I don't know what the chances are, but I have used a product called "redi-sleeve" on a couple of cranks that the front seal leaked, even after replacing the engine cover seal. I don't know that they make one as small as is needed for the pump shaft, but seems to me that surely there is some sort of tubing or something that can be pressed onto the shaft, which will give the new seal and new surface to ride on.

Hello Scott, Go on line and sniff out a company by the name of Hydro-Electric. They are in Florida. Maybe they can help you with some new kit rather than rebuilt bits. Cheers, Andy

Look up Flying Dutchman water pump rebuilders and give them a call. They are based in Oregon USA, and have experience rebuilding XJS pumps specifically. They specialize in "older" cars, not that I hope that makes you feel bad.

They charged me $135 to rebuild my pump, it is working like a champ. Yes, you will be without your cat for about two weeks, but they do such a good job that their work comes with a good warranty.
