What is everyone's opinion of where the values of the coupes will go?

Who knows? It may take years to command big money. Remember they made this car model for 21 years, which translates to lots of them around. While many rust and rot in fields and driveways, many are cherished and kept pristine like mine. These were very expensive, hand made quality cars. Yes the have quirks/faults and design flaws. But I've owned Lotus, Maserati and Alfa Romeo cars, and Sunbeam, MG, Austin Healy and Triumph...Every car has problems...Just figure them out.

Very very gradually up. Never near the heights of the E-Type. But perhaps eventually, in no less than a decade, more likely two, to about twice their current value. They'll be quality collector cars, retaining their value--but not an investment. No one will write articles about a rusty barn find XJS that was restored at vast expense simply because it would recoup that cost and more. They will never be staples of automobile museums around the world. A good usable classic, but not an icon.

I ask because there is a 1979 coupe for sale by me. He says it has no rust with only 32k miles. Car isn't running though as it's been in storage since the mid eighties. I have not seen it in person but in the photos it looks like a new car. My mechanical skills are low and so getting it running is my only concern.

I see the coupes as a short-term investment opportunity. I expect I could get 5x what I paid for both of mine.

Buy low. Non-running ( fresh from storage of 10+ yrs ) V12s are considered un-repairable around here.
