Default Proper sealant above windscreen?

The sealant above the windshield, between the roof and the chrome has really packed up in the last few weeks. It has always looked crappy and dry, but now there is a visible gap between the roof and sealant.

Seems like the sun is really starting to take a toll. Window gaskets are going bad and my clear coat is failing.

Any recommended sealant for this or just whatever black silicone? It looks like it is just waterproofing. I'm concerned anything marked for windshield will be some hard to remove adhesive and not just sealant.

P.S.
Is the stuff on the trunk the same?

FWIW, I have found that bitumastic sealant works best. Silicone always dries out and comes away from the metal. The bitumen makes an unholy mess but just wipes clean off with a white spirit soaked rag, and really works well. If it looks a bit tired after a bit, just shove some more in.
I did this on my rear window and have had zero leaks in 18 years, and same on the front when the sealing rubber began to leak a bit. Just run a screwdriver under the rubber seal, and follow it with the sealant nozzle.

Thanks for the recommendation. Is that similar to butyl? I've used some nasty tar-like stuff on a morris before. Does it cure? Any issue with the paint being solvent based?

Hi Sidescrollin,

I have found this (black) stuff very good for almost invisible repairs to the black seals of the side windows on my coupe and very flexible to.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...l_2m84jbk5x0_e

Note sure if it is available in the US but it gives you an idea.

Be really careful because if you get it on the paintwork it sticks like you know what to a blanket. Use plenty of masking tape.

Good luck,

LeeP

I used Polyurethane on my rear window and its still water tight, unlike my front which Windscreens OBrien did with mastic and its already leaking. Another one on my todo list remove windscreen and re-install with PU sealant.
