Questions about xjs
Hello all, well I have been intrigued by the xjs v12.I really like the looks of the 93 onward styling. Can you please tell me some common problems with the car? I have heard that the jag v12 is nothing but a headache but none the less i am interested in purchasing one at some point. Head gaskets still a problem? Overheating? Block failure? Electrical reliability a joke? Even in the later years the car still makes 265 hp correct? I thought i read 330 somewhere but that might have been for the xj12. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks

I heard some horror stories about V12 Jaguars as well. I don't know whether they're true or not . I asked my Jag Specialist and he said me those engines were problem and not as reliable as straight 6 cylinders .May be that's the reason or one of the reasons Jaguar stopped building V12s since '98

RE: Questions about xjs
i think he is said that because brittish layland was doomed by its workers (peasants) who sabotaged the cars by doing shotty craftsmanship etc. I think that is what he was trying to get at. If that however, is not the point he is trying to make then i have no idea what he is talking about.
Further onto the topic at hand. The only reason i am looking at the xjs is because i would like to mod the v12 to make it a performance street car. Basically a poor mans aston. I love aston martin

RE: Questions about xjs
Ok, boys, what is a Ford era XJS? Ford bought Jaguar in 1988 and the XJS ran from 1976 to 1996. In Europe (because Europeans are pretty cool and can tolerate Germans) the XJS had a optional 6 cylinder engine. In the states we had the choice of a V12. In the late 1980's Jaguar brought in about 200 6 cylinder XJS models with manual transmissions for the US market. The XJS did not come to the US market with a 6 cylinder until 1994, and then almost all were 6 cylinders. So, do you want a XJS or a v12 car--big difference.
Face it, Jaguar is like every other v12 manufacturer (BMW, Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls Royce) you gotta have money to play. God never intended that many moving parts in one place! Just ask the Italians.
