Questions about xjs
I haven't seen it since I was little living in England, but it's like a comonly known show, it's a butt of many jokes. I believe the Lou Brown was watching the show when he was in the hospital in Major League II.
He can look forward to making custom motor mounts, custom tranny mounts, custom driveshaft, etc. I personally would use a different tranny and have a custom transmission adapter kit made by mazworks. Also, he must use a different radiator since the outlet on the XJS radiator is on the driver side and the mustangs' is on the passanger side. A/C...forget it! I could go on forever, believe me.

Peewee, I'm new to the site, but my 2 cents worth on the facelift XJS all relates to my 95 XJS 2+2 convertible, 6.0 V-12. Its a great engine with NO major problems. All V-12's require more maintenance than the 6's, but, when right, is the best thing going. The later cars don't have near the problems that the early cars did. I drive mine every other day, and proves to be very reliable. The only reason its driven every other day is because the other days I drive my XJ-6. I've read many posts about garage queen vehicles, with low mileage. The truth about these cars is, the more their driven, the better they do. Nothing is worse for any vehicle than to just set for months on end, and even more so for Jaguars. Everything is dependant, of course, on maintance. So many of these vehicles have been abused, without the proper care, then their owners wonder why they break down. Proper cooling is paramount on these, as well as any vehicle, as well as proper oil changes, and all the normal maintenance. Head gaskets are not a problem on the later cars, nor block failure. These later cars were built during the time when Ford purchased Jaguar. Lots of mixed feelings concerning Ford, and I share them as well. BUT, Ford did pour tons of money into the cars to take care of a lot of the know problems of the time. As far as my 95, I've had no electrical problems what so ever. Hopefully everyone is so lucky. Mine is reportedat 303 horsepower. Many purist consider the later (Ford) Jaguars as not being true British cars, in my book their still great cars, very fast, great handling, attention getting, etc. Just my opinion, but no one is happier with their car than I am.

I, too, am considering an XJS V12- 1994 to 1996. I have had a '94 Vandy (bought when it was a year old) and Icurrently own a 2000XJR which just turned 60K miles. Here's what I've compiled thus far, and please let me know where I err. The newer version V12 (6.0L) is a far superior engine to its predicessor, the 5.3L in terms of overall reliability and performance. A Jaguar mechanic told me that if he were going to buy a V12 car, it would be a 6.0L. True, or no? If 5.3L engines are good, what to look out for? I like the XJS-C, but I'm afraid of the pre-ford era mechanicals
V12-engined cars, whether XJ-12 or XJS require front end attention sooner than inline 6s, for suspension bushings, grommets, etc. due to the weight of the engine and corresponding wear. I know these cars require more maintenance and I'm kinda used to paying for it [:@]. However, I want a V12 as an occasional car, not a daily driver fighting through traffic and stifling Florida heat. I wouldnt consider a V12 if I neededa commuter car.
Is there any mechanical difference between a '94, '95 and '96XJS V12? Do they all have 4 speed automatic transmissons, or did the '96 get a 5-speed automatic?
Are there any trouble areas to watch out forin these years? (For example, '98 and '99 Jags had nicasil issues in the cylinders - avoid like the plague in an XJR!) If I go to look at a car, I want to be sure to check for the right things besides "ooh, isn't it pretty"! Kinda like dating - the prettiest ones are usually the most trouble
!
Any ideas and suggestions for what to look out for whilst XJS V12 shopping would be most appreciated
-Kent
