Default Re-chrome trim using chrome wrap

This may be a stupid question, But can chrome trim pieces be “wrapped” in a high quality chrome vinyl instead of having them re-chromed ? (Which is very expensive)

i have searched the internet and people seem interested in either wrapping their entire cars in a high mirror chrome wrap, or deleting their stock chrome pieces with a black wrap, but I have not been able to find anyone using it as an alternative to re-chroming OEM pieces.

Anyone know?

Don't see why not. It won't look as good as chromed metal, but would be a low-cost way to spruce up parts.

I wouldn’t think this would be successful due to the reinstallation with vinyl packed under the trim. But, if you had it professionally done, it would also not be cheep. You could re-chrome them yourself cheaply, but repairing any delaminating old chrome first makes me lean towards buying good condition used pieces.

Thanks for the replies. I will try a small piece first, the chrome strip in my facelift grill and see
how that works.

There is actually a new'ish paint, which basically applies chrome to body panels etc. The finish isn't as perfect as proper chrome, but it is very very very close to it.

Thanks- I have seen the sprays, but Not results in person, so I don’t know how it will turn out. On, the other hand I have seen some of those cars wrapped in chrome, and those look like they where dipped.

It's not a spray can. By God, luckily no spray can. Properly applied via air gun. Also tintable...

I went ahead and ordered some chrome vinyl wrap from eBay to do the strip on the grill. It’s not the top of the line 3M wrap, but it will give me an idea of how it comes out and if it’s a doable project for me to do on larger pieces
