Default Rebuilt alternator

Hopefully someone can assist with this alternator question. I have a 1985 Jaguar Vanden Plas V12. I had to replace my alternator as it was no longer charging. I received a rebuilt one , and when switching over the pulley and fan I went to have lunch and when I came back I think I may have mixed up some parts. Stupid me, I also forgot to take a picture. What I’m
Confused about is specifically the order in which the parts go back onto the alternator shaft. I have two spacers or washer (each with a woodruff key notch), a fan, the pulley, a lock washer and a nut. The shaft has a woodruff key in it. I suspected only one washer/spacer went back onto the alternator and the other one came with the rebuilt unit, but couldnt remember. Anyhow, I put it back the shaft in this order (closet to alternator to end of shaft)

1. Only one spacer
2. Fan
3. Pulley
4. Lock washer
5. Nut

When I installed the rebuilt one back on my car, I heard a sound from the alternator that suggests it’s bearings are bad. However, before I return it I want to make sure the order of parts on the alternator shaft are correct.

Hopefully someone can help or has an old alternator picture lagging around

Do you still have the original one? Can you compare them?

Here is the disasembly section from the ROM: 86.10.08 Step 6
Clamp pulley, unscrew pulley nut and remove small washer, pulley, fan, and large washer from alternator spindle.

Step 7 says: Extract Woodruff key from spindle and remove spacer.

There are no diagrams. Does that help? It sounds like you have things in the right order, but possibly missing a washer?

The purpose of the washers is to align the alternator pulley with the relevant drive pulley on the crankshaft, so the belt has a straight run between the two. So it is fan, enough washers to align, the pulley keyed into the shaft, then a lock washer and finally the nut.

ALSO

Since you have a noise, LOOK at the fan, closest edges to the casing, look for witness marks of the fan rubbing on said casing, COMMON on rebuilt units.

Space the fan with a washer to clear the casing, if that is the cause, then align the belt pulley as Greg has stated.

Default Alternator Woodruff Key

Does anyone know the correct size of Woodruff Key for the BUREC alternator C33985
I have measured slot width on the slot as close to .163" and length .75"
It seems to me that metric key 4mm wide x 19mm Long x 7.5mm high is very close and could fit
Is this correct?
