So i got my replacement water pump today and one of he holes on it has a screw and it has to be used because its cut out and tapered.

wtf??

i mean i guess it could be to make it easier to chase in to get the pump mounted but i feel like i wont get it torqued down properly..

That is a proper pump. Have you removed your old pump yet? If memory serves me it is because of clearance for a pulley. Take a look at the parts manual. If you don't have go to JDHT.com and look. The screw is part number SF505101J.

Look in Kirby's book for a write up. Do not overt tighten the screw or you can break the pump.
