Default removing rotor

When I checked the operation of my vacuum advance I tried to remove my rotor just to drop some oil in but it wouldn't budge! It simply pulls off right?? I was afraid of breaking the plastic shield and wasn't absolutely sure it should come off that way but i'd like to know when I get to replacing it...
thanks!

Whatever you do, don't yank upwards too hard!

These can be a real stinker.

I buy a new one and use a very sharp chisel and a few careful and gentle hammer taps to break/split the old one.

so you actually break the old one off?

Maybe I'll split it with a dremel..

That's what I do, yes.

That'll do it.

There's a circlip or retaining ring of some sort on the shaft. Pulling up ward too hard snaps the ring off.

Agree with Doug 100%.

Pulling TOO hard will snap that LUCAS plastic circlip (NLA), and the whole shaft will rise waaaaay too far, and the springs will stretch, the language goes out the window, the dollars exit the wallet real fast, once you find someone with the bits you need, which are getting skinny on the ground down here.

I use a "smear" of Hi-Temp silicone grease I got from a plumber years ago, on that shaft boss prior to installing the new, or old, rotor, and they always come off later in life, albeit tight, but not like what you got now.

Okay so I got my cap today and thought this would be a 15 minutes breeze. WRONG.

after drilling a hole into the old rotor to crack it off I COULD NOT get the new one on. I even bent the metal tab inside all the way down and I ended up cracking the new rotor trying to get it on. What am I doing wrong?

Now I have to weight on shipping because ***cking Autozone wants 70 dollars for a 10 dollar rotor
