Resonators

resonators dont affect the loudness of the exhaust. they just eliminate rasp and give a more smooth, bubbly tone. ive got the resonators removed on my GP, but aftermarket resonators on my pace car, and there is no comparison. the Pace sounds 100x better. the GP is about 5% louder than the pace.

Which ones are you calling the resonators?
Removing the front mufflers....the ones under the back seat...makes only a small difference in the sound. You'll have a slightly authoritative tone to the exhaust. No problem hearing the radio. In fact, you'll have a hard time hearing the difference.
Removing the rear mufflers makes a bigger difference in the sound. I've never run with the fronts in place but the rear taken out, so I can't comment on the exact tone.

honestly, that is exactly what i would do if i wanted a louder car with a good sound.
mine sounds pretty amazing with just glasspacks, 2 1/4 all the way back baby. a little loud for my taste though. im more into the sleeper thing.
i thought the rear were silencer tips, and the fronts were actually mufflers.

FWIW, I removed the front mufflers and ran these in place of the rear mufflers.....
Chambered Mufflers, Power Sticks, Cobra Mufflers
Pleasant tone, slighly loud, no drone at cruising speed
Cheers

mines definitely the loudest car ive ever had, but you dont have to raise your voice inside with the windows up. jaguar luggggjury insulation. lol
also, having full duals that port out the back helps redirect the noise.
when my GP is in track mode with the down pipe ported out underneath the center console, its like being in a glass bottle with the lid screwed on, whilst someone vigorously bangs on the glass with a metal spoon.

Jaguar just calls all of them "silencers" :-) Mufflers, silencers, resonators, whatever.
Broadly speaking resonators are smaller mufflers used to fine tune the exhaust sound. They can be before or after the main muffler. GM used to call some of their resonators "exhaust attenuators"....heh heh.
I don't think any of the mufflers on the XJS are "resonators" but, in any case, the rear ones...whatever you wanna call 'em....do most of the noise control
