Default Restoration Specialist Needed ('95 XJS)

Hello,

I'm hoping that some of the members can offer me a referral or two of any individuals or shops that can do a restoration on my sweetheart's beloved 1995 XJS. Fairly straightforward, as far as restorations go:
  • New Paint
  • New Carpets
  • New Headliner
  • Minor dents repair
  • Other misc. interior details (replace center armrest console, etc.)
I don't have the know-how, parts resources, or the time to do it myself- but would love to turn it over to someone and have them handle it for me (us).

Many thanks!

S C O T T (and Suzanne)

Are you willing to ship it all over the world to have it restored, or did you have a specific location in mind?

Thanks for reaching out! As much as I'd like to ship it off to the UK (or anywhere ex-US) for refurbishment, alas no. I'd be willing to send it just about anywhere in the U.S.A. however...

Do you know of any such shops?

Paul's Jaguar in Fort Lauderdale is worth a shout; I had a bunch of work done there a year and a half ago. Jeremy knows his way around the cars and the guy working for him - José - is good.
Aside from some mechanical work, I had seats recovered, new top, carpets, wood trim, etc.

VERY kind of you to send me this resource! Thank you! I'll reach out, and see if he can do minor bodywork and paint also. I overlooked listing "seats" in my list. It would be nice to get them reupholstered, and glad to know you had this done yourself.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure he does bodywork and painting in-house, but he does have other resources locally; my recollection, for example, is that he has a guy that does seat covers for him using leather that Jeremy has in stock. The covers weren't cheap, but a nice job.
For the wooden trim, I think the guy to use is Saul @ British Autowood - Jeremy can likely take care of removing / shipping / re-installing.

Given how well they know these cars, a good opportunity to have the mechanicals checked over, as well, if you're not inclined / don't have the time to work on the car yourself.

Good luck!

None of the items are your list are particularly unique to Jaguar or the XJS, so any competent Paint/Auto Body shop and Upholstery shop should be able to help you. The trick is to find the competent ones. For instance a lot of Paint/Auto Body shops are insurance churn shops that you'll want to avoid. A couple of suggestions to find to a more local solution -- one, call the service department at your local Jaguar dealer and ask them who they sub out their paint and upholstery work to. Second, find a local jaguar specialist mechanic, particularly ones that specialize in older jags such as E-types, and ask them who they would recommend.

Good Luck
