My oil pressure sensor was also new and shiny, yet it failed 2 weeks after I put it on.
Do you have additional "cold start" injectors, one in each manifold?

M90, you don't have the cold start injectors on yours, I checked your engine bay photo.

ok. if the CTS was bad, wouldnt the engine not run at all?

if i jump the CTS pins with a piece of wire, it has little effect on the way the engine runs.

If the CTS is unplugged the engine should stall the moment you unplug it. But if it's bad, it may still run, just not correctly. If you unplug it and jump it with a wire, it fools the ECU into thinking the engine is at operating temp.

operating temp would be the most lean fuel map, correct?

OMG, I just remembered, my car ran rich as hell when I got it, it was also missing and smelling up the neighborhood with awful fumes.... Both side catalytic converters on it were melted, making exhaust very restricted, causing all kinds of hell inside the motor... Long story short, I gutted them all and it made my car run tons better, before I got into new harnesses and all the other jazz.

hmm ive got glasspacks and my Jag is pretty loud. i would think that badly clogged cats would quiet everything down. i dont really get any sulfur fumes either.

btw, i found out from the previous owner that my XJS had sat in a storage unit in florida for 14 years without being driven. he said hes never been able to get it running right since it sat.

If she sat with gas tank half empty, you have all kinds of rust in the tank. I'd check filter and little reserve tank. This little bitch hold all kinds of junk in it, see my pic here.

Little tank is in bottom right corner.

my swirl tank has been bypassed, my fuel tank has been cleaned, cooked, and religned.

General:
I am a bit confused, now, about exactly where you are, and what has been definitely fixed per spec, what has been jury-rigged, and what has not been done yet at all. A summary would be a help if any future suggestions are to be well informed.

Injectors:
If this has not been done, particularly after the '14 years storage' story, as well as the injector wiring, I would pull all the injectors and have then cleaned, re-flexibled, tested etc.

In principle, I stll feel the injector performance is likely to be at the bottom of this over-fuelling.

i was assured by the seller that after the car came out of storage, the injectors were cleaned, and tested professionally. not saying that i absolutely believe that since 2a was dead when i got home.

summery of things ive done.

well, i rebuilt the injector harness with some BMW stuff i had laying around, but i didnt bypass the original plug.

i patched the bad spot in the TPS power supply wire and im now getting voltage to the TPS and IATS.
ive currently got the connectors for the CTS and TPS hotwired to try and achieve the leanest mixture possible and to rule out a bad sensor, which isnt really helping.

ECU has been replaced once by me and once by the previous owner. the ECU im currently running came out of Jamey's cabriolet which is in good running order.

TPS is currently a mustang unit which is producing about .41v at idle. a little rich, but clearly not rich enough to consume 5 gallons of petrol in an hours worth of idling.

smog has been bypassed, air rails have been capped off, AC has been removed.

The injector resistors protect the ECU, in the event of a short circuit, by limiting current.

Off-hand I don't see how they could cause or contribute to an over-fueling situation but don't take mine as the final word on that.

Could a resistor problem create excessive pulse width? I dunno. It probably deserves some mulling.

Cheers

Oh, by the way, the resistor pack is wayyyyy forward on the right side inner fenderwell. It's roughly rectangular, silver, about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

could be at least worth checking for corrosion.
