running too rich.
THIS. i dont know what darel is on about.
Disagree if you like, but I'll definitely +1 the gearbox comment. It's not so much the particular one they have so much as it's the ONLY one you CAN have. No option for OD, no option for stick. Period.
precisely. theres nothing rong with a TH400 on a cheap american car, but on a highspeed V12?!?!? what were they thinking?
"that will do" (pronounced with British accent) !
Heh heh.....something we often ask about our old Jags !
At the time (mid-'77) the 400 was still considered a viable trans (strong, smooth, cheap) from a field with not-all-that-many-choices.... and was an improvement over the BW12 it replaced. Back then in the 70s the XJS was, believe it or not, one of the faster cars out there....even with the lazy old 400 tranny.
But, yeah, 16 years later they still hadn't moved on to something more modern. That's Jaguar for ya....very slow to make changes.
From 75-80 the 4-speed manual was offered behind the V12 but only about 350 buyers said yes....and I think the majority of those were the very early cars. Little wonder that Jaguar decided to drop it from the catalog.
Cheers
DD
As you can see, the thread owner hasn't posted anything for over 8 years. So, if you have a similar problem and the answer can't be found in this, or other threads that you will have searched, then I would start a new one.
