Default Rust!!!

I was sickened to see some surface rust in the top left corner seam of the trunk (in between the rubber seal and the bodyalong the weld seam).

Should I take it to a body shop to have the problem fixed as soon as possible or is this a lost cause now

I have not seen any other sign of fruct on the car to date but I now wonder if this is the end!

Thanks

All cars are going to rust at some point (apart from those new fangled ones made out of recycled drinks cans / aluminium)

One thing is for sure that it won't get better on its own, but at the same time it doesn't sound like its the end of the car just yet. Have a professional bodyshop look at it and the rest of the car while it's there. Then go to another bodyshop to get a second opinion. You could be looking at a little bit of surface rust that just requires treating and repainting, or this could be the beginning of something a lot bigger.

What year is the car ? Any other signs of rust in other places ? Has it been a dry state car or a wet state car ? Any previous bodywork done on it that you know of ?

Its an 86. No other rust (I have seen) and I am in a relatively dry place. No body work I am aware of either.

Thanks

Like the others said I certainly wouldnt wait. Ive had some areas like that and it turned out to be a little surface rust and it just needed grinding, treating and repainting. However it could be bigger, but its not the end of the world.

Even if they have to cut a section out and weld in a patch, the price shouldnt be too bad. Plus its better than letting the cancer spread.

Was going to take the car in but weather here had another plan....that is it dropped to -10 and started snowing.

Have put the car in storage for the winter so will have to tackle this in the new year(April)

Cheers
