Default Rusted out trailing arm mount

After about 3 days work, the rusted out LR trailing arm mount on my (my wife's) 78 XJS has been repaired. Cut out the bad metal, fabricate and weld in the new metal. Used my $20 Harbor Freight angle grinder and my $80 Harbor freight flux core wire welder. Two pieces of angle iron in a vice as a poor mans metal brake. I spent about fifty bucks on metal and supplies. I can now pick up the car by the trailing arm mount or the jack point. and, the welding did not burn any of the exterior paint. A big bonus. I am way closer to being on the road with this car than I was a week ago.

And I told myself I should take pictures, but I did not want to slow down to get the camera or phone. It did make me realize that sending a Jag to the scrapyard just because the trailing arm mounts are pulled out is foolish. I am not an expert fabricator, but probably a little better now than I was 2 weeks ago.

THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU DID THIS WITH MINIMAL EQUIPMENT MAY SAVE A FEW OLD XJS CARS.
Well done, RagJag
