Default Scissor Jack Replacement

The OEM scissor jack that came with my 96 XJS is no longer reliable. The base started to bend, as did the top part, where the 3/4" diameter hole is to accept the peg at the car's jackpoints underneath.

I purchased a replacement scissor jack:

Amazon Amazon

It's got no hole for the peg though. Should I just drill a hole into it (and paint it over) or is there another solution out there?

Thanks.

Nice item. Just drill a hole, say I.

Drill a hole in a 2x4 and lay it on the jack bed.

Mac
The jack head must be positively located to whatever it is jacking. Anything not attached is a disaster waiting to happen.

Personally I'd carry a small trolley jack in preference to ever using a scissor jack.

The car doesn't really have the trunk space for a trolley jack. It's not like scissor jacks haven't been successfully used for decades. I'm not climbing under the car when using one, it's to replace a tire when disaster strikes. When used as the emergency last resort tool it was meant to be, it is quite capable and reliable.

Yup. Just drill the hole to locate it if needed.

Cut up the bad one. And dispose so as no one might try to use it, .that includes you.

And, yes, road service and my cell beat my lifts all to pieces.

Decades ago, pre RS and cells, I had a small trolley in the trunk of my Chrysler Cordoba. Flat in SF. Saved. Change not all that bad. Oh, the X lug wrench beat the malleable original all to pieces.

Carl .

Because Rich Corinthian Leather is too good to be jacked up by a scissor jack!

That takes me back to NYC in about 1975, I think. I rented one for a bit, lovely inside, nice shape and styling, but the rental co could not fix the steering pulling to the left. SO swapped it for a Pontiac Grand Prix!
