Default Sell my Jag? I think not..

I was at the DMV today (for non-american forum members, this is the department of motor vehicles, where you have to do all the bureaucracy of owning and driving a car). Anyhoo, getting back into my XJS when an older gentleman strikes up a conversation with me. I chat with him for about 5min about my sweet ride, and he tells me that he has always wanted one, and asks if mine is for sale. I tell him 'no', and he says: "I'll give you $10K cash". Well, I don't mind telling you that I have not put nearly that much money into my car, so I would have walked away with a healthy profit. But he might as well asked me to buy one of my kids. I had to chuckle, and I gave him my number and told him that I would be happy to help guide him through the purchase process for somebody else's car.

TL;DR - I think the market is starting to swing upwards for the XJS. Also, I would sell my car for the right price, but I doubt anybody would ever be able to meet that price. Too much attachment. If you are in the market for a kid tho...

Do I think that the XJS will go up in value like the older XK's or E? Heck no but I do think that the XJS will be pulled that direction because the earlier XK's and E's are simply getting too pricey for the average person. Those of us who want a classic older looking Jag will take a serious look at the XJS which will help increase demand. IMO the XK8 is a great looking car in it's own right and a good performer to boot but the XK8 does not have that dated classic look (at least not yet). So if you are looking for a reasonably priced classic looking Jag the XJS for many of us is a good fit. Since most people do not see a XJS' very often if ever the car does garner attention in just about any setting.

Hate to say it , but nine times out of ten, people who come up and offer cash for your car are usually full of c*ap. No one buys cars like that.

Agree, but I think this guy was true to his word, as evidenced by the fact that he called me last night and offered $12K! Wow. I still turned him down and directed him to this forum to look at my post, which he did, and had a good laugh. He is going to Newport News today (across the river) to look at one and I am tagging along. I get to live vicariously through him, and we may have a new member before long. Now I just need to restrain myself from trying to outbid him on the ones we go see...

Btw, if anybody is fairly local to Virginia, and has a BRG convertible XJS they are willing to sell, PM me. I may be able to put you together with a buyer.

Default Sell my XJS...Nawww

I know the feeling too, since I've owned mine for two years now, I've been asked if I'd sell, approx. 6 times, and know thaty three times were serious.

Last fall, I was making arrangements to store my '89 XJS Convert at a local European dealership's basement where approx. 50 vehicles get stored for winter, and the Dealership owner's wife had been looking all around my car for 10 minutes, commenting on it's great shape and great looks. -She had stepped out of her 600 series Mercedes. Next day, I got a phone call from Mr. Dealership, asking me what I would need to sell it, as his wife really liked it. -I pondered a while, but said I was having way too much fun with it now, maybe someday. He gave me his card and said to contact him first if and when.
As was mentioned here though, we know these cars sometimes sell for silly low prices, and this guy knows the market well. -If I had said $16,000, would he have laughed his head off, or taken =me seriously. -Right now, I would not take a penny less.

I bought my wife's 94 XJS 2+2 as an anniversary gift and I haven't regretted it since.
We live in Atlanta, GA and went to Flint Michigan to buy it and then drove it back to
Atlanta in 2003.
Nothing like watching a gorgeous redhead driving a 94 convertible with the top down
on a Spring day. She says she will never sell it and I hope she doesn't.
My gift for her recent birthday was to get it repainted. It is the "Oyster" color.
Champagne maybe light bronze color? Anyway it is beautiful and still turns heads in a crowd of Lexus, BMW, Mercedes owners.
