Default a single safety question

Does anyone think it would be possible to survive a rollover in an XJS convertible?

It is my belief that such an event would essentially be a death sentence, and I've often wondered what others might think.

As a convertible owner that thought has crossed my mind. In a high speed rollover it is a gamble in any vehicle, but the likelihood of survival in a ragtop has to be considerably lower. In a low speed rollover, I think it's more feasible, but it depends on the circumstances.

In a true convertible, without a rollbar, you would be pretty much toast.

Rollbars used to be popular add-ons on MG's and Triumphs. Maybe you could install one on your XJS.

Oh, I don't intend to roll it.

I imagine it would be quite difficult to accomplish, in any event.

The XJS is actually quite progressive and stable at the limit. It's hard to imagine rolling one in any conventional circumstance, aside from severe collisions or an accident involving a ditch.

It's just something I've considered a few times. That spindly little windshield surround looks like it would crack like a toothpick under the weight of an XJS, if one managed to flip the thing.

Some convertibles are actually quite stiff in that area, but the XJS... I get the feeling that surround is only there to keep the windshield out of your hair.

Just something I've been meaning to examine a bit.
