Spark gap clarity please
I ran the Red beast in the NT (no speed limits back then), and I ran out of brave pills at 5800rpm, and have NO idea of the speedo, shiiit was zooming past the window at insane speeds, spouse was NOT impressed, and the damn thing still had us pinned to the seat, warm and fuzzies, YOU BET.
The V12 is one engine where "near enough is simple NOT good enough", but again, so few actually listen.

Yep, nothing like a Jag V12 being driven as designed. Sad so many are shopping cars.
The fact the damn thing still pulled, an sat on the road like Super Glue still gives me the shudders.
The following X300 and S Type's never felt that sure footed at 110kph,. The designers really did get it RIGHT.
Maybe I should sweet talk Management and buy another XJ-S, I doubt I am that brave or silly, but you never know.

Quite the opposite, really. They're built like tanks. And it's darn near impossible to hurt the V12 engine...cooling system neglect excepted, of course.
I don't think I've ever heard of a Jag V12 engine suffering an internal failure. That is, a failure of the reciprocating assembly, oiling system, bearings.
To each his own, naturally, but IMO if you're not giving your V12 the boot at every opportunity, you're missing half the fun

Cheers

100% agree.
My XJS was more stable at 100-120mph than any car I've owned, including my XJR. I was always amazed !

I think it was Phil Hill, certainly a famous US racing driver, who was asked b y Jaguar to test a racing spec XJS as Daytona. He said that Jaguar had told him the car was dead stable at high speeds, unlike the E type he had driven for them (E Types are notoriously unstable at high speeds). He said, in the subsequent interview that he had thought that this assurance was 3/4 wishful thinking and1/4 BS.
Then, he said, he tried the car, and found it was so stable he could move it up and down the banking at 150 MPH with one hand on the wheel, and absolutely no dramas whatsoever!
