Default Strange connector in centre console

Hi Gents (and ladies)

Hoping someone on here might be able to identify what this connectors for?

I have a 1994 facelift 6.0 V12 and discovered this connector a while ago. Its like no other connector I have seen on the car and I'm curious as to what it could be for. It does appear to be part of the Jaguar loom.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Rob

Did the car have a cell phone installation at one time?

It looks similar to the 2 white plugs forward of that one which I guess are for the window switches.
Is the car a convertible or does it have a sunroof?

This is for headlight leveling. Euro model only.

Your car is the Salvador Dali edition, the only difference is the electrical connectors are surreally shaped.

Thanks gents for the responses so far. Some interesting suggestions to say the least!

XJSrookie, yes the car did have a phone installed when I got the car but it was a bodge job in my opinion and I doubt oem as some of the wiring was spliced into other wiring going to the radio. So this could well be the right answer.

Steve M, the connectors in front are the same as other jags, rectangular. This is why I was particularly intrigued by the connector as its like no other I have found on the car.

XJSV12, another interesting suggestion but it seems like a curious location to put something like that. I would have thought it more likely to be in the engine bay. Also I have never heard of self levelling lights on an XJS. Would be interested to know if anyone has one!?

Bullettandy, as per Steve M It's only this connector that's different.

Once again thanks for the suggestions so far. I think I like Rookies suggestion the most so far as it does seem the most likely but happy to be proven wrong.

Regards
Rob

Although, having no XJS, I have no vote, I vote that is ledft over from the car phone.

Radio involved ? Slick, I recall that some of the car hones used the radio speakers for a hands off effect.

My 88 Tbird had a similar install. I liked it a lot. Air time, then was $$$$

My 94 Jeep has some of it's former car phone stuff still there. No hand set, though. Harmless, so I leave it there,.

I guess there is no way to probe with a meter to see what is hot and when it is hot ?

If no function is missing, don't sweat it.

Thanks guys.

It's not a concern, just curiosity on my part. As some have already mentioned, has no effect on the performance of the car.

I might see if I can get the meter on it next time I'm working on the car.

Would be interesting to see if anyone else on here has this connector or better still the genuine Jag phone plugged into it

Interesting, part 4 on the drawing Part no. DAC7244 | Control switch parts from Jaguar Classic Parts UK looks like the ignition switch on a RH Drive car. Did Jaguar ever offer a console mounted ignition or a Push Button Starter?

Good spot XJSv12 the connector next to item 10. does look like the same connector I have . Sadly my car had been converted to quad headlights prior to my ownership so I have no easy way of finding out if it did have self levelling lights.

If it did, still seems like a curious place to stick the connector, under the centre console next to the window switches.

Please keep all the suggestions coming in!

Thanks
Rob

Here is that switch. Used in German and Finnish cars.

Thanks Malc4d. Would love to see this in action. Guess I'll just have to find a good excuse (and some one with an XJS) to go to Finland or Germany!

regards
Rob

All it does is moves the headlights up or down (tilt) a bit. I can show on my XJ if you want. Most owners curse them as they tend to die early and you can't get many spares anymore...
