Default to swap or not to swap

Well after finally taring into her im discovering just how much the sound insulation damages by holding water. I take to you gents for advice . Posting pictures of the damage as I come across it. I have a buddy offering me a body for it so I'm not up ***** creek without a paddle yet.

The trunk is a cake walk what scares me is the transmission tunnel rot. Saturday or Sunday I'm going too remove every piece of sound matt and see what ugly I hiding under this beautiful body. I really would hate too send another car too the bone yard but shes been neglected so long

ehhhh floor boards are such a typical thing to rot out though. I wouldn't sweat it.

but this doesn't happen often on the XJS, so the floor pans are expensive. Personally, if money is the only issue, I would find a similarly seized car, with more moderately priced floor pans, and cut them to fit.

You could always just buy the plain sheet metal, the issue is mostly putting some divots in it to reinforce it and keep it from flexing.

If you can weld up the rear floor pan and you aren't worried, I wouldn't worry about the trans tunnel much. Even if you can't shape metal very well, it isn't going to be visible, so just get it replaced any way you need to, as long as it has fresh metal.

you could also find an XJS in a yard and cut the floors out of it, let one give all it can to help another before it is gone forever

If you can get another car that is sound, then I say get it and use this one as a parts source. That rot looks terminal to me! On the 'new' shell, however, look very carefully all round, including unbolting the front wings and looking at the structure underneath by the A pillar. Also the flloor at the rear underneath where the radius arms attach.

My thinking is that to repair the one you have properly means taking everything out of the shell anyway, so putting it all back into another one is no more work!
