Question Switch under Steering Column

This is ridiculous, I know, but I recently bought a 91 rag top and have "invested" about $16K getting it up to my mechanical standards. Last night I spent a total of four hours with my Owners Manual and three pound shop manual trying to discover the function of a rocker On-Off switch under the shroud around the steering column.
No joy!
Anybody have a clue?

Thanks,

Bill Hill

I believe it's a "Valet Switch" for the alarm system. I don't recall exactly what the difference between Valet on/off might be.

Perhaps searching the forum for "Valet" might shed some light.

OK, you peaked my curiosity about the switch so I dug into my owners info and found the Security Supplement. I think the info isn't in the owner's manual because the alarm was an optional item (dealer installed I think).

Attached is the Valet Switch Information:

On the underside of the steering column cover, ignition key side and toward the dash.

Thanks very much. It was driving me nuts, plus my wife is enjoying the fact that I was stumped.
Any idea how to get more info on the Security System?

I scanned the security supplement for you (it's a trifold and a little larger than the scanner bed so it took four scans):

The wiring for my security switch was under the console. There are two switch knockouts at the forward edge under the console lid where I installed my switch. If you look up how to program your remotes you will find the directions refer you to the wiring under the console if you do not have the security switch option installed.

Guys... He has the '91 version of the alarm like mine. It works slightly different than the '92-'93 onwards. There isn't a switch in the consul and the keyfob programming is a little simpler.

look at this thread and there are instructions in post number 31
