Garmin won't stay plugged in, guess either adapter (if available) or a second receptacle installed is needed.

Any recommendations appreciated.

I had the same problem but you can get these 'ciggy adaptors' in almost any Car Accessory Shop.

So Best to get a double or a treble one, while you are about it and you can even get them with a usb as well.

Take the 'Garmin' in to make sure it fits and also make sure that its a good fit in the 'Ciggy Socket' in the Car.

I couldn't get my radar detector to work in the socket. I picked up at Walmart an extension it has a plug on one end a coiled cord and a female end. It makes the connection/fit and the socket works perfectly. under $5.00.

here it is...

Thanks, but will the male plug fit into the UK female socket? Also not sure if my 92 xjs is pos or neg ground. If pos, Garmin probably won't work.

RB,

All Car cigarette lighter sockets are universal. And virtually all cars in the world since the mid-60s have been negative earth. You'll be fine!

Good luck

not quite true

most are, however jaguar did use a slightly smaller adaptor for a few years, as my 89 XJS has, and jaguar actually sold a dedicated adaptor to be able to fit other devices ,

as a non smoker I have fitted a brand new period correct cigar lighter and element along with the optional adaptor plug , sad I know, as I even have the optional drop in cassette tape holder for the arm rest cubby ( sold on the same page from Heritage at the time )

BB,

Tks for the clarification on the earlier cars. I wonder when the changeover was? My 94 facelift uses a standard unit.

Cheers

Paul

i thought nothing of it until i tried to plug in the car charger for my satnav , and found the satnav plug was too big to go into the cigar lighter socket

as for the standardisation of sizes, i do not know.......

GRRRR!!!

But, back to electrics and away from fond memories!!

As I dimly recall, there is a ring type adapter that allows differing receptacles to match.

I robbed a dud jump start box of a plug. fortunately, it fits my Jaguar as well as my Jeep. Unusual for me.

I made a patch cord for my VOM. Plug it in and read volts in real time under vrious load and RPM conditions.

And, yup, the plug on my TOMTOM fits Jaguar and Jeep.

I should look for an onboard charger for my cell. Plug in as well. fit???
