Default Are these bumper lights supposed to turn on?

Whenever I turn the light switch to the second position the warning light will come on for a few minutes. All the lights work except these two rear bumper lights. If these lights are supposed to work how do you get to the bulb to change them out?

Those look like rear fog lamps. Are you sure they don't have their own separate switch?

Someone who knows more will chime soon, no doubt.

They are switched on by a switch to the left of your clock or computer.

After checking my car, they are the reflectors and not lights. The fog lights are above in the tail light section

My '92 has reflectors there, also. Interestingly (or maybe not), my reflectors are white, not red. At one time, I thought they were the back-up lights. Was there a year they changed to red? Or maybe they are different for cars sold to different markets (I've seen a couple of early XJS's that were originally sold in Canada new here in South Florida. Euro headlights and K/m speedos).

Well then if they are just reflectors then what is causing the light warning to come on?

It is part of how the system works that the bulb out light comes on for a minute or so when the lights are switched on. Only if it does not go out is there a bulb out. Also, pressing the brake pedal, engine running, with the handbrake on will light the bulb out light. This feature is a way of testing the bulb out light is working.

What year is your car? Looks just like my 95 and they are rear fog lights. Separate switch on dash. It's hard to see from the drivers seat.

My '96 has those and they are not lights, just reflectors. I suppose you could change them to lights if you wanted to go to a lot of trouble.

On my 95 they are reflectors only too. The rear fog lights are in the actual lamp cluster

I doubt it. Can you link the episode from youtube? I have seen a few XJSs driving around in Vegas. I not the only one.

I hear that the lamp clusters are like $700 each. Is that true?

Yup on mine the fogs are in the rear lamp cluster. switch is next to front fogs switch. I didn't know that US models had rear fog lights...the light cluster part numbers are not the same ! Are rear fogs allowed now in the US, anyone know why although they look the same, the rear light part numbers are not the same. ? This is the same on my Stag, US part number different.

Howlinowl, ..The rear reflectors went white on mine and a few £s later had a pair of new bright red ones from Jaguar classic parts

They are just rear reflectors, although your photo makes them look like fog lights....

Most (maybe all?) tail lights and headlights for the facelift models were discontinued by Jaguar few years ago so the only choice is used replacements.....which are not easy to find. So, yes, $700 seems very plausible.

I'd almost be tempted to snap 'em up. Over the last 2-3 years I've heard from a couple guys searching high and low for replacements.

Maybe they simply didn't look in the right places? Or had a bit of bad luck?
