Default tool box location

Hi Guys,

dumb question; but where would the toolbox/jack be correctly located in a 1984 XJS-HE

it seems from my search that these were simply loose in the boot/trunk, which is rather difficult to believe.

many thanks in advance
Bernard

mine was loose as well. i just store it in the recess between the inner rear fender, and the boot undertray.

I believe that originally, the jack goes longitudinally, but sticks up a bit in its cover, into the recess between the LHS rear wing and the exhaust tunnel, . The tool kit into the other recess on the RHS, also stick up a bit, vertically so as to avoid the original aerial motor which was across the front end of that recess. This leaves the boot floor clear, apart in my case from a llyer of tools, extra bits and spares!

If you were expecting nice tool box in the middle of spare wheel, or pull down drawer under trunk lid, then go see BMW. We are all here not because of automotive common sense, but for the love of trivia, called Ja-guuuu-ar.

Absolutely; it's a Jaguar, why would you ever want to jack it up or fix something with the tools? Throw them away, it's not as if they ever go wrong is it?

The most important tool, car lift does not fit in the boot anyways.

Thanks to all the replies.

Guess I am spoiled with the tools etc in my Lexus or the Austin 7.

In the Lexus the tools are almost gold plated and carefully housed without a chance of anything rattling around. With the Austin 7 there is no need for a jack since one simply lifts the car with one hand using the other hand to replace the wheel.

Default Tool Kit

Same issue - I started to look for the tool kit after I found the jack. I guess Jaguar expects that we all have money will have someone come and fix anything when we are on the stuck on the side of the road or need a screwdriver to make a minor adjustment somewhere.

I would have been happy to have a nice tool tray where I could neatly put my assembly of tools rather than have them stuffed in some bag.

Mine requires a Craftsman 6 drawer on top of a 4 drawer rolling base.

The tool kit that "came" with my 1990 XJS is quite small and easily stored - it's the membership card for AAA with the phone number for my mechanic written on it with a Sharpie.

You people are so silly. The toolkit goes right next to the car, usually a large complimentary set of wrenches, sockets, and electrical testing tools. It's not the tools that goes with the vehicle, but the vehicle that goes with the tools, wherever you may take them. And, as a Jaguar owner, it is expected that you do have a full fledged auto garage on your premises and perhaps your ASE certification (a mechanic's certification) on display somewhere. It goes without saying that you will either own your own tow truck company, for only an uncivilized couth would allow a common tow frigate to smear the fine body of a Jaguar!

Now, back to see why my Jaguar has no power at lower RPMs...

It's in the FAQ.

You forgot to attach the auxillary tow truck with chipped diesel engine.

Just don't let my wife hear talk like that! I convinced her it was a super reliable vehicle and parts and service were readily available and inexpensive!
PS - I do have AAA and my mechanics number is on speed dial.
