Run the car up to temperature, park it up and put your foot on the brake.
At tick over run through all the gears several times then leave it in Park.
With the engine still running pull the dip stick (brown handle below the right hand side cross brace, close to the fire wall, bit tricky so make sure you have a rag to hand), wipe it, reinsert it and pull it again and read it. Do this several times and take an average reading. Once you have determined the level and you decide that you need to top it up simply pour the correct amount (and grade) of ATF down the dip stick tube; using a long necked funnel helps a lot.

thank you and i just found the culprit, sprung a leak where the tranny fluid hose connects to rad. When i replaced the rad a few years ago it didnt have the compression fitting to screw onto just the nipple sticking out. So put a hose clamp there. Have to investigate more tomorrow thanks.....

Adding to what Steve stated.

When pulling that dipstick out, be VERY careful, as there are a bunch of wires and small vac hoses in that area, and without care you can displace them, and havoc, bad language, alcohol consumption, follows instantly.

As opposed to just warming up the engine I find that it's best to drive a good 10-15 miles and get the fluid trans fluid HOT before checking.

It really *does* make a difference in the dipstick reading!

Just my 2-cents

Cheers

I asked alot of them the last few years

There is lots of "beginner" eyes watching

The trans fluid is one I have asked as well...
