Trunk boot lid helpers

Has any xjs owners retro fitted gas Struts to the boot lid.? Do the ball pins bolt through the trim panels or are the panels cut around the strut. Any pictures would be appreciated

I don't know if the pre-facelift that you have is substantially different, but here's a pic of a facelift boot strut attachment point.

That's a bracket attached to the reinforcement pressing. Interesting.
