Default Trunk XJS does not open with remote

Hi, ive run into another problem; my '95 xjs coupe trunk does only open with the key. It does close with the remote, but does not open with it. Ive searched the forum and found several messages with trunk lock problems but not this one. The lock is in the right position, opened to the left and returned to vertical position, with the master key.
sometimes it does open electronically, but not too often. Tell me i don't need to drill please ..!

thanx, pim

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJS forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

If you lock it with the key, only the black key will open it. The green valet key will not, neither will the FOB.

if you lock with the FOB, it should unlock with the FOB.

Maybe the lock/unlock motor is bad in the unlock direction only?

Maybe it thinks it’s been locked manually so
it won’t unlock?

i've tried every combination of unlocking/locking with remote and keys, and sometimes the remote works on the trunk, sometimes not. but it always closes with the remote. It doesn't open electronically, so i have to open it with the key. i turn it left and up again, its open then.
when i push the remote after that, it closes, but does not open anymore with that remote until i use the key again... and sometimes, using the same procedure, it does open with the remote. looks like the motor has a bad contact or something like that

how do i get to the motor? are there any pictures on the forum?

thanx, pim

Last question. When you pull out the key, are you pulling it out sideways? If you are, it's not going to unlock.

Removing the lock and motor is pretty straightforward.

Theres a couple of screws you need to remove on the underside of the lid. Perhaps there's only one. It'll be a phillips head. Somewhere along where the lights for the license plate is. You do not have to remove the lights, or covers.

Then on the inside, you'll have to remove a couple of plastic clips that hold the carpeting in place. Then you'll be able to expose the lock and motor. Unplug the motor.

Then you'll need a 10mm two remove the two nuts keeping the assembly in place, deep socket for one if I remember correctly.

Once removed you'll have to pull the metal rod out of one of the speednuts. Then just shimmy the whole thing out. You're basically removing the lock cylinder from the hole in the trunk lid.

It's not hard, just a bit awkward. You'll probably want to clean out the trunk, because I end up sitting inside working up. It works for me.
