Default V12 swap

i found a little good running 84 XJS that i was looking at months ago. still on craigslist.

V12, A/C, etc. the car is in rough shape but i was thinking about taking the V12 and trans out of it and swapping into my car and swap some of the go fast goodies off of my V12 onto it. AC hoses and compressor too!

how hard would it be to get the entire EFI loom out of that car and into mine?
opinions on this please.

ive also found a 355/700r4 swapped RX7 that would be a good donor.
i find the nastalgia of the V12 is outweighing my desire to go much faster much easier.

Or, you could bring it to my yard and let the professional find what's wrong with your kajigger.

Replacing the wiring harness is not hard but it is time consuming. It runs through the interior along the transmission tunnel. I replaced mine years ago and the interior basically has to be removed because you need to get the carpeting out.

Why would you swap the motor and trans? You said your engine has good compression and did run at one time. Once you started "fixing" it is when you ran into problems. The concern with swapping the engine and trans is what condition are they in from the donor vehicle.

Maybe you should pay Mish_Mish a visit. I am sure a road trip to him will be less time invested than doing a wiring harness and/or engine swap.

i guess i just have a trust issue with this engine. when it was running, it was just good enough to get home.

when i started repairing gobs of melted wiring was when it started acting really weird.

A parts car is a great thing to have.

The harness is actually not hard to swap out, but the biggest issue with these harnesses is the insulation that gets "crispy" over time...not sure you'd be able to get the parts car harness out and reinstalled in a usable condition, but it's worth a shot.

Don't bother swapping the engine and trans. Not the problem unless your compression is bad.

How much is the parts car? Under a grand and you can easily make your money back and possibly get your car running to boot.

Well here's a thought. It's always nice to have a parts car anyway, but you can put the two side by side and follow/test each component to find out whats wrong with the current car. Once it's running, you can pull the engine out of the other, strip it down, and rebuild it the way you want for an eventual switch.

That's kind of the path I'm taking with my two cars, once I'm satisfied with my driver I'll pull the motor from the parts car, clean it up really well, and redo the engine bay with the freshened motor from the parts car.

Or maybe I'll twin-turbo itand stick it ina T-bucket.

M90,

Did you read the thread about "idle @ 750"? Doug mentions oil getting into the dizzy when the AAV is blocked. Did you check inside your dizzy?
