Value of XJS
Your best bet would be to submit it to Bring a Trailer. They seem to get the best money for your kind of car, the low mileage type. Go check out the website. You'll find that they significantly outdo what eBay seems to sell them for.
Now the amount of work and commissions involved, I am not aware of, so make sure you check that out as well.

Coupe or Convertible? 6 or 12? These will have effects on the value.
But looking at Hagerty’s condition 3 valuations it’s between $13k and $18k. Condition 2 “Excellent” cars are up around $30k.
Mileage alone doesn’t really affect value with a car this age. It can indicate a highly maintained cared for car or a car that has sat for a long time and needs everything replaced. With modern cars mileage serves as a basic approximation of condition, but that’s not really true anymore by the time the car is 30 years old.

Hi. A 1994 Jaguar XJS with 36k miles in very good condition typically ranges from $10,000 to $15,000. If it has a rare color or additional features, it could be on the higher end of that range or slightly beyond.it’s always good to check recent listings for similar cars in your area to get a more precise idea of the current market.

Perhaps you can share the VIN number here?
Wired1976,
Appreciate that people don't like sharing full VIN nos. And you've mentioned it's a "1994" (manufactured or US Model Year?) and a 4 litre. So the factors that affect its desirability are:
Is VIN from 188105 to 194774? - Big bumpers and AJ6 engine
194775 to 198334? - AJ16 engine and revised seats etc- more desirable
over 198335? - AJ16 engine and revised brake system, slightly more desirable but only to those who really understand XJSs

I don't know your definition of "excellent" or "very good", the values I gave are based on these guidelines: https://www.hagerty.com/valuation-to...our-conditions
If its either of those you should be able to get $10k easily. The current average value for a "good" car, according to Hagerty, is $14400.
How does yours compare to this one? https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds...s/2607745.html
Another thing, I assume you're looking for a value to list it for sale? If you're looking for an insurance value it will probably be different.

They almost always are, unless it's something pretty new "book value" is usually a vague suggestion at best imo.
And even with bring a trailer there is a lot of conjecture about who is actually buying cars there and if it's really
an accurate portrayal of a given market. These cars just haven't become overly valuable from a monetary
standpoint in the US unless they are somehow special or super low mileage near as I can tell.
For such low production numbers there are way too many of them available for the market to actually
be moving many cars around I suspect.
