Of course I'm OCD and always assumed there was only one (right) way to turn your cigarette lighter - HORIZONTAL. That is until I bought my XJS. I took it to a local Jag expert - old school guy - and he was so manic and like a Seinfeld character. He probed all around my car, and interestingly got in the car and turned the lighter from horizontal position how I had it, to vertical (cigarette pointing up).
That got me thinking. However I still believe horizontal is correct. If you were smoking, the cigarette would be sideways, and the smoke would rise up. This is how it appears in the horizontal position.
The vertical view could be a possibility I suppose, if you were looking at it from an overhead view. However, the smoke is thus going sideways. It's also a less balanced pictogram.
Sick of that arguement with the 1st wife, so I painted the emblem out, and have done so ever since, and the 2nd wife is serious OCD, and has no idea after 36 years, a winner for me I think>???

Grant,
I could be lacking in sensitivity here but isn't divorce over a disagreement on the orientation of the lighter emblem a bit extreme?
That's where my driver recorder gets its power from, because I was unable to draw power from the fuse box for some reason, but if I still had mine in, horizontal of course. It's not a chimney, for heaven's sake. And even if it was, it's unlikely that the smoke would go down.
