Default weird cold whining sound?

I have a odd whirring/whining sound at startup for about....10-45 seconds. It can only be heard from IN the car. I have gone all around the engine bay with a stethoscope and found nothing.

I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. Changes with engine speed but not driven speed, sometimes revving a little clears it up.

Since I could hear it from inside but it is not from inside I though maybe the brake booster or power steering...but i can't find a thing.

Anyone have any clues or heard of anything close to this before?

Low trans fluid?

Or..... Might be the trans filter. Not unusual with the old 400s.

More specifically, the seal/grommet thingy that holds the filter tube to the valve body ages/deforms.... and then the tube isn't properly sealed....so the fluid cavitates and the pump whines.

No way to know for sure unless you drop the pan for a look-see.

Cheers

Mark your crank damper to eliminate that...but you can usually hear that outside

maybe I'm just unsure what you mean, but how does a dampener make a whining sound? Its just a metal ring with some rubber and another metal ring

this has been my main thought recently but I haven't driven enough to check. I JUST got my fuel pump in the mail and everytime I notice the sound I am running late for school or work, and don't have the time to check.

When my jag was low on fluid before it also would lag a bit upon acceleration. I had also sort of cancelled it out because it changed in park, but technically the converter and parts of the tranny are still spinning, idk why i somehow forgot that.

.....also my front seal leaks tranny fluid, surprise surprise
