What made you choose the XJ-S?
When I bought my XJS I was actually in the market for a TR6....to sit alongside my XJ6 in the garage.
I hadn't warmed up to XJS styling at the time so it really wasn't even on my radar.
But, browsing Ebay I came across an XJS that really caught my eye. And it was blatantly apparent that, in the XJS, I could have twice the car for half the money (or less) than the Triumph. The rest is history.
I'd still like a TR6, though, even if only for a short while. Someday, someday.....
Cheers

On top of the XJS classic styling and value, I was attracted to the Jaguar XJS because it was produced for 21 years which meant you had plenty of years to choose from with little styling changes over the 21 year run.
You could choose between a V12 or inline 6 along with some limited manual transmissions, a coupe or convertible as well as a XJSC cabriolet. It was the last Jaguar model directly influenced from Lyons and is a pretty rare sight in most areas.
I also wanted a TR6 but being almost 6'5" tall found the TR6 to be a tight fit and the XJS was much more car for the money.

Before I bought the XJS I was seriously looking/thinking about a 1960s four door Jaguar and very weakly looking at E types and so on. But two things put me off - one was the cost of these cars if in good condition and the other was that I didn't want a car that required me to spend all weekend and nights working on it. And the XJS seemed to be the best compromise between the ease of use and the attributes of a classic car. It was similar reasons that drove me to search out a 6 cylinder instead of the V12 - I didn't want an engine that required huge expenditures to keep it running and the 6 was by reputation far more reliable than the 12. I was looking at Jags for about 2 years before finally making the decision and thanks to the internet, I was able to do this without my wife knowing! And she was surprised and shocked - but fine about it - when I announced I had purchased the XJS and it was on a truck on its way from British Columbia to Ontario. Another key point is that it had to be manual - I did not want an automatic transmission, and I found this car for sale from Vancouver Island and bought it sight unseen. But very happy with it.
My nephew has an E type and a 1960 Mk 2 - both white and immaculate.

my XJS was forced upon me!
back early 90s, i had a dead storage rentel garage, units.
guy came in and rented a space, paid couple months ahead!
came time to pay again, never heard from him, few months went by he finally shows up with a title, said you can have it, signed over to me!
i didnt even know what was in the storage space, opened up and there the money sucker was sitting, a RHD 1978 JAGUAR XJS prototype Aston Martin XJS modded roadster thingy, nobody knew what it was including ME!!
OK 3 years later , DADDY look at me now.

It' the prettiest, sexiest, most beautiful car since the XKE, and since I can't afford one of them, or the fact I drove my Bosses XJS, when I was 18, and was blown away. Take your pick, the deal was sealed. It just sucks it took me 40 years to get one. Oh and I just bought a another for parts to fix the first one. So now I have 2!!! YES!

I've always liked the style of the XJS. After seeing some at a used Jag dealer and test driving one that I couldn't afford I decided that I would try to find one I could. I found one that looked good and was less than 1/2 the price of the one at the dealer. It did have twice the mileage but was in real good condition. So after looking it over for over an hour I bought it. No regrets.
I love the lines of a XJS. I already had a Jaguar X300 and wanted to have a convertible. The AJ16 engine is fantastic so a XJS with a AJ16 engine and celebration. In Europe very expensive so one bought in the USA and shipped to the Netherlands.
I started seeing them on an auction site that I follow. I was actually in the market for something like an older Alfa or Triumph but I fell for the XJS. I started looking and lost a few bids and began looking in my local SoCal area. The ones I found were not all that great but the prices were good. After much looking I finally found the one I was looking for in Phoenix. It is a beautiful 1994 British Racing Green V12 Coupe with 85,000mi. A lot of the work that I was finding necessary had already been taken care of so I was able to pay the higher ask without too much remorse. So after a nice drive from Phoenix she's settling in next to my 2005 str.
