It doesn't increase pressure all that much (its also pretty expensive) so if yours is bad I can't see it being a big deal to simply disconnect it (mine recently broke).

If you are having vapor lock issues your vapor system is probably the issue. I didn't have time to deal with it a few years back so I drill a hole in my gas cap after it vapor locked while driving once and had a hard start in Miami.

If the pump (per say via the relay) is turned off in a "crash" situation what is the big safety switch's job (can't recall the name)under the dash for that stops the engine and must be manually reset to restart. I understand this switch is super sensitive even to speed bumps.
Realizing the safety of the 2 sec on off "feature"I don't recall seeing this being read in the wiring instructions of any electric fuel pump. I don't know

The ECU turns off the pump if the engine stops, ignition on, after about 3 seconds. The same circuit activates if the ignition is turned on and the engine not turned over by the starter.
The inertia switch immediately cuts the pump if a shock is administered to it, such as a crash. Mine has never tripped in 19 years of ownership and 100,000 miles, so mine at least is not over-sensitive.

That is because this feature is not part of the pump wiring (ie relevant to changing the pump and connecting its + and - leads) it is part of the ECU system that controls the pump relay low tension circuit.
