Good afternoon. I was lifting the hood of my 1990 V12 XJS and the hood latch caught and pulled the attached tube. What is this and were does this go? I can't find it on my engine diagrams.
The hose is supposed to be cable-tied to the wing stabilizer bar and the 'air-filter' is supposed to be tucked under the bar mount bracket.
It is a 'breather' for the distributor. The distributors were 'sealed' at some point to prevent the spark in the dist from igniting fumes from the 'always-leak-prone' injectors.
Jaguar V12s were ALWAYS catching on fire and multiple TSBs and Service Action/Recalls were issued in the 1970s/1980s.
That runs to the dizzy. It is an external filter and has no other attachment than the one attached. It is a breather for the distributor. It should sit under the diagonal struts via zip tie.
