Wheel stud, lug nut extenders
Fitting my wheels to the car is now a complete pain. I have the brake dust wheel covers and it's really difficult to line up the wheel to the stud. I reacently saw some "stud extenders" that you screwed onto a couple of original studs and they allowed the wheel to line up and slide on to to rest of the studs. BUT for the life of me l can't remember where l saw them.
HELP please if anyone know where l can get them from.......
PS l can find lots that go into the wheel bolt hole, but not onto the stud.
Anyone know what thread the stud has ??

Ideas:
1. 1/20 aka NC aka national coarse. I suspect, very common application.
2. Take a lug nut down to the local hardware. check in their bins til you find a nut that threads on properly. Not it's size and thread designation.
You can look into a well stocked stores bins for an idea.
A threaded "coupler" comes to mind. But, I can't wrap my mind around how any extender would fit in the holed in the wheels.
A vague idea that the lug nuts are shouldered and as such there might be room.
Sidebar:. I've a derelict VW based "dune buggy" in my drive. I had it's front wheels off. Big tires on VW wheels. VW's use bolts to go in hoes in the wheels. clumsy, but doable with skinny tires. Not so much with the fat ones. So, I made removable studs. Two to a wheel.
Sorta pointed ends to ease the entry. NC threads. so a pair of bolts from my HF sourced bins did it. Just ground off the heads.
Ground couplers????

I think a 18" length of 1/2" copper pipe might work.
- slip pipe through wheel
- slip end of pipe over stud
- slid wheel towards hub
- lift pipe to lift wheel
- slide until home
- withdraw pipe
hmmm .... i might try this myself
longer pipe = more leverage for lifting

That's exactly what I was thinking. Try some thin walled pipe to slide over the studs place tire and then remove to install lug nuts
malc4d,
Dave Roche still sells these. I bought a pair some years ago and they've been really useful. See his website:

Thanks all, l will try some 1/2 copper pipe as l have some in the garage. That was the picture l had seen Paul. Thanks. Thanks Mark, but not quite what l was looking for. Seems a lot are about to use in place of wheel bolts.

Well, the traditional Jaguar stud is the same as Chevy.
1/2" diameter stud, the copper pipe is 1/2" inner diameter.
Should be a go.
Whoever tries it first should report back
